How to drive a truck manually/remotely

  1. Install 8 AA batteries in to the Futaba Magnum Junior controller
    • Turn it on to be sure it works, currently the battery cover is lost
  2. Find the R123F micro receiver. Hook the steering servo to 1 and the drive motors to 2
    • Some of the connectors have been damaged and could potentially be plugged in either way. Make sure the black wire is closest to the outside of the receiver (when reading the text on the receiver, the farthest right)
  3. Connect the 7.2V NiMH battery to the motor power connector
    • Be sure to note the state of the kill switch. It must be reset before the truck will run
  4. Mount the Wireless LAN access point and the Cannon camera on the truck
  5. Connect the camera to the access point with an Ethernet cable
  6. Connect the camera and access point to the 11.1V Li-Ion battery using the pigtail
    • Together they typically draw 0.6A. When moving the camera .8A is drawn
  7. Connect wirelessly to the access point with a PC and point your browser to http://192.168.0.16

You should be able to view and drive the truck around. If you are having problems, see the following sections.

Setting up the Cannon camera

The camera must have the following settings:

  • IP address: 192.168.0.16
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Camera default settings after reset:

  • IP address: 192.168.100.1
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.100.254
  • Username: root
  • Password: VB-C10

Connect to http://192.168.100.1/admin to change settings. You may need to use a crossover cable if you are connecting the camera directly to a PC.

If you need to setup the camera, follow the instructions in the VB-C10 Camera Manual

Setting up the Wireless LAN access point

The wireless access point must have the following settings:

  • IP Address Mode: Static
  • IP address: 192.168.0.1
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Wireless LAN default settings after reset:

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 0.0.0.0
  • Username: admin

  2. The default IP of the Wireless LAN device is 192.168.1.1 so change your wired IP to be 192.168.1.x
    • Navigate to Network Connections, right click on Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection, click Properties, choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click Properties, select Use the following IP address:, and type IP address 192.168.1.2, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1
  3. Connect an Ethernet cable between your computer and the device.
    • Note: If the device was setup as an Access point (i.e. not a bridge) before you reset it, you may choose to connect to the device wirelessly by changing your Wireless Network Connection IP to be 192.168.1.x and connecting to the “wireless” SSID
  4. Open an internet browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
    • User Name = admin
    • No password
  5. Click Admin on the left side
  6. Scroll down to the bottom, if you see Switch to AP: [Switch], Click OK (if you see Switch to Bridge:, you are fine). If you switch the device, you will have to wait for it to reboot. Connect back with it and navigate back to the Admin screen.
